Accessing Feelings of Well-Being by Writing Notes

This weekend we spent time re-connecting with our why.

During this practice a fruitful question for us was "Why should Of Note exist?

An interesting answer arose, one that we're not sure we've expressed in this way before -- we believe that
note-writing is an effective way to access feelings of well-being.

Michelle Gielan, the author of Broadcasting Happiness, recommends that when you're having a bad day you should take two minutes to write a brief, positive note to someone you know: a thank you, a compliment, or an expression of deep appreciation.

This reset works, because your mind can't be in two places at once: you can't be unhappy and stressed if you're thinking how grateful you are. When you return to your bad day, your brain has one more positive piece of information about your life.

"Plus" she says, "we know that the greatest predictor of long-term happiness is social connection, and you've just spent two minutes thinking, 'Whoa, look at this person who cares about me and has contributed to my life in a meaningful way.'"

We believe that everyone deserves moments of contentment like these, so we offer reflective prompts to help you access that sense of well-being and connection.
